Francisco Allendes & Paola Poletto – Animals EP /// Desolat

Desolat debut with plenty of Latin influenced rhythm and smooth grooves…

Classical violinist, Francisco Allendes has a synth rock background and is probably one of the most interesting electronic music artists from Chile at present. His productions have gained much attention with releases on labels such as Ghostly and Cadenza. He teams up with the Italian born DJ, producer and Ibiza resident Paola Poletto; Ushuaia resident and sound engineer. Their Desolat debut is their unique view on house music, full of optimism, fun and sundrenched grooves.

“Animals EP” is very much a South American influenced EP with plenty of smooth groove and adapted Latin rhythms. “Chicken From Cosmo” is a very straight forward blend of deep bouncing bass layered with intricate percussions playing off a single vocal loop. Francisco and Paola have applied minimal variation to this tracks, which some may find monotonous, but others will surely find the subtleties complementary to the general flow.
The EP steps up a gear when we are confronted with “Ralf The Dog”, which hangs on the fine borders of genres, lingering between industrial techno, funk and tech-house. Allendes and Poletto have crafted a mildly driven beat with a bass that encourages positive progression at any given moment. The vocal cuts point out one simple fact, that it’s “just a beat”, which is the key element in all this. The beat is surrounded nicely by a composite of electronic industrial sounds and percussion effects that are welcomed additions to the weird yet positive vibe that “Ralf The Dog” emitts.

Gatto Pushon could be described as the most off the wall piece of this EP. Keeping in line with overall style and sound of “Animals”, it has a combined affect from all its elements that is slightly abstract, through the sporadic percussion, spring vocal cuts and scattered FX. This is very much a jungle ride.
The only piece that seems to stray from the overall style of this EP is “Lady Sufleta”, which is a little tech house rumbler and dance floor groover. The bass keeps its strutting along perfectly leading the way for the introduction of a very modest yet short lived arpeggiated synth that grants a portion of chunky groove.
