Taking it to the deep early hours groove…Greg Sawyer snatches a moment away from GetDownGood and Tenth Circle for his debut release on Falk with three house tracks that are so deep, theyʼre practically sub oceanic. With a list of commitments including resident DJ and writer for London’s GetDownGood, PR & Editorial Manager at house heavyweight Defected Records and contributor to leading electronic magazine Resident Advisor, as well as running his own Tenth Circle label championing underground music by the likes of Ludwig, Alex Arnout, Duff Disco and Paul Loraine, Greg Sawyer is a man in demand!
With previous releases on Kevin Yost’s I! Records and Endemic Digital, Sawyer now steps out with his debut EP, “You Can Have More Happiness” on Falk. The opening track is a sub-terrain, spacious and hypnotic burner with dark overtones. Fusing sexy tripped out vocals over a solid bass-led groove with crisp percussion, harmonic accents and
swirling paranoid FX, creating the perfect atmosphere for those deeper moments on the dance-floor. It captures the exact vibe and sound that can be experienced from listening to the rare few DJs who are at the top of their game, boasting amazing sounds week in, week out.
“Can’t Stay Alive” keeps the deep hypnotic vibe going, this time leaning towards a more harmonic approach with deep rising analogue chords setting the backdrop for soulful vocal cuts and melancholic piano lines over a throbbing bass and chunky percussion groove. The closing track “Mine” strips it back and takes it deeper still, developing further the harmonic elements set out already with a throbbing 808 kick, deep chord stabs and a bass line that plays and intertwines with pulsing filtered synth arps, all set under soulful vocal cuts and delayed percussion grooves to create something really special for those moments of calmness at the after-party.
Greg Sawyer may be a man in demand on many fronts but its clear that he doesn’t allow for compromise when it comes to his music. He has produced an inspiring EP that is sure to please many crowds in the early hours of the morning and with support coming from Andre Lodemann, Ian Pooley, Jozif, Jamie Kidd, Norman Nodge, Tim Green, Tyler Stadius, Lewis Ryder, James What, Philipp Wolgast, Blind Minded, Arthur Barr, Giom, Simon Morell and many more, its clearly already doing that.
