“People ask what is Sankeys 3D. Well it is our 3rd year and therefore we are into the 3rd dimension of the club. Obviously we had an amazing season last year, so we need to come out this summer all guns blazing. We are again making quite a few changes around the club as we grow towards an organic development of the venue. We will be totally transforming The Box as we put in a brand new sound system designed by New York’s Anthem Productions set to blow your mind as we reconfigure the room with a 3D element. The opening parties are just the beginning of it all, but wait until you hear about the rest of the programme we have at Sankeys this summer to be announced throughout February. I am so excited that I am about to burst and want to tell you all now, but I can’t…” – David Vincent
On the back of a stunning second season last year that saw it become the go-to spot for cutting edge club sounds and raucous party vibes thanks to residencies from Enzo Siragusa’s Fuse, Solomun’s Diynamic Neon Nights, Steve Lawler’s VIVa Warriors and of course Carnival, Sankeys Ibiza returns for 2013 ripe and ready to deliver their finest summer of events to date.
Dishing up the finest shades of house, techno and electronica, proceedings will be kicked off with a double dose of opening parties in late May.
The new 2013 season of VIVa Warriors will see multi-award winning Steve Lawler further emphasize his pivotal role on the island of Ibiza over the last 15 years, where his bold musical dexterity and underground attitude is now securely installed in the Sankeys Basement ready to lead his suitably impressive array of Warriors talent.
He will be supported by Darius Syrossian who is an essential addition to the line-up, while the on-point Nina Kraviz also returns after a superb performance at last year’s closing parties. Joining them will be Mosca, Shadow Child and Waze & Odyssey, who’ll each bring their own take on house and electronica to the first opening party.
In Spektrum, Troupe Records will be hosting the hotly-tipped Finnebassen who’ll be making his Sankeys Ibiza debut after being the most requested artist in a Facebook poll asking fans who should play at the opening parties. Indeed, the Norwegian’s form was too good to ignore thanks to last year’s dancefloor bombs “If You Only Knew” and “Touching Me”. Playing alongside him is emerging DJ/Producer Charlie Banks, whose pin-sharp EPs for Hypercolour and Dirty Crew Recordings belie his 19 years of age.
Day two sees the hugely anticipated return of Diynamic boss Solomun, inarguably one of the world’s hottest DJs and producers having scooped a multitude of awards. The big man has a sixth sense for bringing the party and will be getting the Sankeys basement jumping alongside fellow label mates H.O.S.H and David August.
The legendary Cajmere will also be gracing the disco with his presence, after king-hitting dancefloors during two superb performances last year, during Radio 1′s Weekend in Ibiza recorded live at the club, and part two of the classic closing party in October. Adding a more percussive shade of house to the brew is Just Be (Bushwacka!) who delivers every time he plays, while U Wanna Escape’s Luis Groove and Alex Picone join the line-up alongside the highly touted Antonio Piacquadio, a regular at Sankeys Manchester and soon to be resident of Sankeys NY, which is set to open this summer.
With the club set to formally announce its seven weekly residencies throughout February and plenty of surprises in store, Sankeys Ibiza 2013 is only just warming up for what’s destined to be its biggest season to date.
Thursday 23 May – Opening Party 1: Steve Lawler, Nina Kraviz, Finnebassen, Mosca, Darius Syrossian, Shadow Child, Waze & Odyssey, Hot Since 82, Charlie Banks, Jonathan Cowan.
Friday 24 May – Opening Party 2: Solomun, H.O.S.H., David August, Cajmere, Just Be (Bushwacka!), Alex Picone, Bones, Antonio Piacquadio, Luis Groove.
Plus the party continues…

Just Be – the new solo project of Matthew Bushwacka – steps into the fold for the illustrious Get Physical Music with “After The Storm”. Due for release on 21st January 2013, the new single also features a deeper mix, and additionally a B-side also called “Out Of The System”. The release is also accompanied by a video that focuses on contemporary dance and explores themes such as disability discrimination, personal triumph and acceptance.
“After The Storm” continues the new musical path that Matthew is currently on with his new Just Be project, whilst still retaining the certain special characteristics in Matthew’s music that contributed to Layo & Bushwacka’s previous success. The title track bursts open with bright percussion, paving the way for a long build up filled with effective ambient elements to set the mood perfectly. Everything comes together when a rhythmic synth creeps up on, setting the track on fire.
The Deep Mix demonstrates Matt’s ability to approach tracks from a different reference point, and provides a different kind of warmth to an already engrossing track. A journey into a ‘dreamier’ soundscape, this one will is sure to provide ethereal moments for listeners both at home and in the club.
“Out Of The System” is another percussive wonder and its bouncy beat keeps driving towards the track’s infectious crescendo. An energetic track that is sure to provide the soundtrack to many peak moments over the coming months.
As mentioned, to accompany the release Frogspawn Creative have produced a video for “After The Storm”. Following the story of a deaf dancer who is mocked by her peers at an audition, the performer then wows them with a stunning contemporary ballet routine. The dancer is still able to enjoy music via physical vibrations, and this phenomenon is based on the director’s personal experiences of a deaf University friend who used to enjoy clubbing on a regular basis. Former West-End choreographer Penelope Schmidt-Uili and deaf advisor and performer Jacob Casselden were consulted on the video to make ensure that dancer Emily Spriggs created a realistic and truthful performance.
Release Date: 21 January 2013

Weekend 42 – 14, 15, 16, 17 Oct….
This week’s round up has grown massively since the previous issue of “Weekend Round Up”, showing off some very amazing night in some of the hot spots of the underground club scene over Europe.
A few weeks back we had published an article about a massive weekend in London and once again, the capital is going to be pumping. Friday night will be the starter of things to come with Krafty Kuts headlining a breaks night and Dan Ghenacia and friends partying away in Hewitt Street Car Park.
But it’s Saturday night which is going to kill you and not just for the long hours of partying or the massive line ups. More for the fact that you’ll be completely spoilt for choice as not only will fabric be celebrating its birthday with a massive night, which seems more like a marathon, but there are also the infamous nights; “Wiggle” and “Shake It!”. And that’s without mentioning that Ivan Smagghe and Derrick Carter will also be gracing the London with their presence.
In fact we would be interested to know which one of these nights would tickle your fancy more….

Lee Coombs, undoubtedly a predominant figure in the world of breaks, has posted his latest podcast which incorporates some brilliant breaks from the turn of the millennium. The 10 track, 1 hour mix includes tracks from the likes of The Drumattic Twins, Blim & Rennie Pilgrem, Planet Funk, Layo & Bushwacka, Quivver and New Order with a number of remixes by Lee Coombs himself.
The great thing about this mix is that Lee done the mix using all vinyl, demonstrating that vinyl is still just as good, if not better than digital versions.
“Another blast from the past, I put this mix together for my Sydney 2010 gig and recorded live with vinyl only using tracks from around 2000-2004. I really miss playing vinyl out in the clubs, CD’s are cool for being upfront but there is definitely something special about playing vinyl. I think I’ll be doing it a whole lot more… It bought back some great memories making this mix and I really think this was an exciting and ground breaking time in dance music.”

So there you have it from the man himself. If you want some old school, ground breaking breaks, then check out Lee Coombs – Old School Mix – Podcast 6.

The great track by Layo & Bushwacka, released back in April, deserves credit. With it’s old school electro bass feel, yet crafted into a modern day dance floor filler, really gets you bouncing.
