This Saturday sees the almighty Cocoon landing in London for a rave up at Ewer Street Car Park, where it has a night and a half on the cards. Cocoon has organised a Room 1, 8 hour back2back marathon of three of Romania’s finest, [a:rpia:r] founders Raresh, Pedro (Petre Inspirescu) and Rhadoo, for whom minimal goes epic with a techno meets house vibe that is energetic and boost all the qualities of a pure Cocoon sound. Ilario Alicante and Markus Fix will be providing the Room 2 antics with their slick style blending the finest of tech-house and techno, things are going to be swinging.
But Cocoon doesn’t plan on finishing up their, as Jaded will be providing the official Cocoon Afterparty shenanigans with a Cocoon special guest confirmed to join Raymundo Rodriguez and Chris Stanford in commanding the main room down at Cable. While the balcony room will be given a run for its money with appearances from Mouj, Teva, Rufus and London key player Ceri. You could pretty much sum up this Jaded afterparty as a morning of London’s rawest form of the underground’s finest becoming prolific players on the scene. An afterparty taht will surely do Cocoon proud!
Daniel Stefanik lands an absolute bomb of an EP on Cocoon Recordings….
Daniel Stefanik releases his latest EP on Cocoon Recordings and it must be said that his ‘Nocturnal EP’ is packed full of three explosive tracks, which are likely to be tearing up dancefloors over the coming months.
The EP starts off with ‘The Silicon Garden’ which comes across as a deeply driven track boasting some great ambient sounds. Every so often the bass and the beat seem to die out only to be drop back in again with immense impact. A remarkable blend of dark and mysterious sounds giving to its slight industrial feel. ‘Dirty Rhodes’ is next up on the list and this one starts with building introduction, but building to what exactly?… Full on shake you body music!… ‘Dirty Rhodes’ we can only imagine is referring to the bass, because that’s what it is with the rest of the tracked being layered up with bright ‘hand in the air’ tones. The track is going to massive across the board!
Last but least, ‘The Harlequin In Me’ is most probably the most versatile of all three tracks. Where ‘The Silicon Garden’ could be used as a crowd builder and ‘Dirty Rhodes’ is the more rinsing of the three, ‘The Harlequin In Me’ is one of those tracks which is pumping mid way through the mix. It’s a solid and full on reliable track which doesn’t boast any incredible particularities like the previous two, but it’s got a driving bass and will never let your mix down.
Just so that you know exactly what we are talking about, here is the official Cocoon Recordings ‘Nocturnal EP’ sampler. Make no mistake, we’ll be hearing a lot more of Daniel Stefanik and his ‘Nocturnal EP’.
Nearly 2 years in the running and Bedlam just seems to be going from strength to strength….
Over the course of nearly 2 years since the creation of the profound Maidstone (Kent) underground night Bedlam [Kent], it seems that Tim Green & Co are determined to make their mark on the scene as they reach new heights.
Bedlam, being the night of fast rising UK talent, DJ/Producer Tim Green. Tim Green being the man behind great tracks like “Old Sunshine”, who has seen both his name and production work on outstanding labels such as Get Physical, Dirtybird and Cocoon. And the Co being the dedicated people [Forward Thinking Music Management] behind the organisation of the night, helping both Tim Green and Bedlam to reach new heights.
From day one hosting the likes of M.A.N.D.Y., Martin Buttrich, Audio Fly, Lee Burridge, Matthias Tanzmann, Emerson Todd and 2000 And One, Bedlam has been smashing places like Maidstone hot spot, The Loft, some old abandoned cinema and now the historic Chatham monument, The Tunnel. And Bedlam seems to be focusing on those venues that are just dripping with pure underground vibe, which seems to be another key to its success along with the countless talent of DJs they are drafting in!
And with The Tunnel being the prime location we made sure we were at the Bedlam 1st Birthday almost 1 year ago. Where we soaked up the energy of Tim Green banging out his very own “Old Sunshine” and Matthias Tanzmann building the crowd with Yousef’s “Come Home”. We can honestly say that Bedlam @ The Tunnel is a truly momentous night indeed. Which is why Bedlam at The Tunnel returns once again this weekend [29 Jan] to host rising Italian house star Leon and very special guest Cassy. And of course resident Tim Green!
Cassy, well-known for playing DC10, Cocoon (Ibiza), Panorama Bar and Fabric, is undoubtably one of the best DJs on the scene. With her music being released on Souvenir, Cocoon and the almighty German giant Perlon Records, not to mention her mix CDs for Panorama Bar and Cocoon, she has gained huge respect in the underground scene. Her unique style and party vibe earning her back2back sessions with Ricardo Villalobos as she focuses on weaving deep and dark house music, twisted techno along with skill and finesse. There’s no doubt about how things are going to turn out for Bedlam!
Leon returns to Bedlam after having played an impressive set at the beginning of 2010 alongside M.A.N.D.Y. Having releases out on Nick Curly’s Cecille Records and Steve Lawler’s VIVa MUSiC, his talents have been gaining recognition from world-class DJs as Pete Tong, Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Cox, Luciano, Laurent Garnier, Loco Dice, M.A.N.D.Y., Tiefschwarz, Matthias Tanzmann, Nic Fanciulli, Danny Howells and Marco Carola. Adding to that, an extensive 17 date tour of the USA and Canada along with constant dates in Italy, UK, Germany, Holland, Russia and Spain, it’s not hard to see why Bedlam has got Leon back behind the console.
Which brings us back to the point of success. Because it’s not just the countless number of exceptional DJs that give the feeling of climbing success, it’s also with the added expansion and launch of Bedlam London. An act of proof that Tim Green & Co not only have the credentials but also the vision – “determined to make their mark on the scene”.
Bedlam London, set for a secret East London venue on the 19th March, boasts the presence of the Cadenza star known for the hit release “Elle” and collaboration with Cadenza co-star Cesar Merveille, Columbian born Pablo Cahn along with Crosstown Rebels duo, Art Department. – One word – Sick!
All we can conclude is that London may be a bigger pond but with Bedlam’s track record and reputation, it was inevitable that it would start to out-grow its current location and search for a larger environment, which will simple fuel its success.
Maetrik is someone who has been contributing to the musical world around him since 93′ but we have to say that 2010 has been his year. With exceptional releases such as his ”Gliding Blind EP” out on Audiomatique, not to mention the dancefloor destroying “Snorkel” on Cocoon and “Glob Monster” on Bedrock, plus a long list of quality remixes you can understand why 2010 could be classed as a superb year for this exceptional producer. And it must be said that his constant searching for the future of electronic dance is evident in his music.
After devastating dancefloors across Europe with his rich dynamic production and unique blend of Techno, House and Electro, Maetrik makes the transatlantic journey back to his homeland for his North America Tour, which will take him from Montreal, to New York, Miami, Detroit, San Francisco and Dallas.
As a warm up to his tour, Maetrik has released a promo mix which is a fine example of what to expect. – don’t miss that monster track after the 54min mark!
North America Tour Dates:
14 Jan @ Compound, San Francisco 15 Jan @ 813, Dallas 21 Jan @ Electric Pickle, Miami 22 Jan @ Vain, Detroit 29 Jan @ Espace, Montreal 30 Jan @ Resolute, NYC
This weekend proves once again that the underground scene in London is still alive….
London sees yet another weekend of superb music and once again Londoners and visitors are spoilt for choice between, The Gallery, Cocoon, Global Underground, Nature or Nurture, Jaded and god knows how many low-key parties shaking up London Town. But we feel the main clubs which will be rocking the weekend are Ministry of Sound, Fabric and Cable and all very close to each other.
Ministry of Sound will be hosting The Gallery for a Friday night of Progressive House featuring Hernan Cattaneo & Danny Howells playing back to back for 4 hours, not to mention Henry Saiz and Guy J getting in on the action. While Saturday night leaves the way for Global Underground with Trafik and James Talk. Fabric puts on a special night of Cocoon where Sven Vath, Onur Ozer, Matt Tolfrey, Ilario Alicante and resident Craig Richards will be joined by a few other guests. This is a night worth getting in on, which is where we will be! But that’s not to say that Nature or Nurture won’t be rocking down at Cable with Terry Francis and Nathan Coles [Wiggle / Fabric] playing back to back. Followed by the Jaded “6th Birthday” bash kicking off at 5am in Cable.
And if you really need some good music to get you warmed up for the weekend, we can recommend this great mix by Benji which is just the right amount of deep moving tech house to get anyone in the mood for a good party!
This weekend is surely going to be a storm for everyone involved in Cocoon’s visit to England, as well as for Liverpool’s Nation and London’s Fabric.
Cocoon will be making a double date tour this weekend, kicking on Friday at Nation, Circus presents the Cocoon night with a line-up of some of the industry’s most established DJs; Booka Shade, Guy Gerber, Raresh and Onur Ozer. Not to mention Circus top man Yousef and Cocoon legend Sven Väth.
With Circus’ involvement in hosting a Cocoon night with such a line-up, Liverpool’s Nation is going to be electric.
Moving on to Saturday night and Cocoon will be landing at Fabric and how are we pleased to see the legendary Sven Väth gracing Fabric once again. Here Sven will be joined in Room 1 by Turkish DJ Onur Özer, known to music lovers for his offering on the Green and Blue mix series last year, as well as London’s very own Matt Tolfrey, who are surely going to be shaking things up. Room 2 will be just as momentous with Chile’s Dinky being joined by Italy’s Ilario Alicante and Marcus Fix, who has acclaimed releases on Cécille, Oslo and Cocoon. And last but by no means least, the intimate Room 3 will be given a run through its paces with Craig Richards and Jozif rocking through the night.
If after this weekend of madness you still feel like you could do with some more, make sure you get yourself down to Cable, London Bridge, for Jaded’s 6th Birthday where you are sure to experience possibly the greatest after party in the Capital. Running Sunday morning from 5am till 2pm the renowned Raymundo Rodriguez will be joined by Bass Culture boss D’Julz, Circo Loco legend’s System of Survival, Rythmatic’s Stathis Lazarides and Wesley Razzy. As well as Tommi & Colette Delalez. A morning not to be missed!
You can guarantee that Guerilla Sounds will be at Fabric for Cocoon and we might even pop in to Jaded for a bit of after hours shenanigans!
