It was an idea born in Manchester and over the last couple years, Departure has not only become a regular part of the scene over in Ibiza, most notably for hosting the infamous Sankey’s & Itaca workers parties, but also reach the shores of France, Italy and New Zealand.
Departure’s newest adventure sees an expansion across the Pennines to Sheffield where it kits out a warehouse with Funkion One’s to celebrate its second birthday on Friday 01 March. Departure resident Oliver Drops described the choice of Sheffield to host their latest event as, “a simple one”, since the city has, “a unique and expanding scene full of amazing people” in addition to “having an exceptional choice of new venues to use”.
Joining them for this party are Audiojack and Darius Syrossian who are supported by residents Oliver Drops and Thomas Olivier with Mali b2b LFM and London regulars, Kolo & Dyze. In The Box the residents from two of Sheffield’s leading underground nights, De:Bug and Ryad battle it out with a special unannounced guest.
Departure was officially announced as part of the newest and most unique summer festival of 2013, at none other than Vertigo Festival. Clearly the promoters of Departure will be taking the opportunity to raise awareness of their undertaking into the Italian Alps, providing an appetizer to Vertigo Festival. Billed as Europe’s highest altitude summer dance music festival, Departure will clearly be luring people from the grey English skies to the immaculate Italian summer climate.
